we concluded that how a network is swt\itching its company from the requirement for customer . In this way one telecom company is connected to another in national level.But for the information /data/connection for intra-country level ,the ISPs are working through 3 levels:à

      1-  TIER 1 ISPs   ( CONNECTION TO 1 CONTINENT TO OTHER THROUGH                                   SEA)

      2-TIER 2 ISPs     (NATIONAL LEVEL TELECOM COMPANIES/ISPs)

      3-    TIER 3 ISPs     ( LOCAL TELECOM COMPANIES/ISPs)

Now we should know what is ISP????

      ISP or INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER is a company that permits individuals & other companies to access for data transmission to internet at a certain bandwidth & frequency for data transmission to internet.

1/ TIER 1 ISPs-

è These ISPs are those companies who have spreaded their cables/optical cables in the sea to connect two continents (like Australia –Asia/ Mumbai-Dubai etc.).

è These ISPs are the base in providing internet .It simply means they are the main investers and are at the top of internet providers.

è They don’t pay any one rather they are profit gainers as there are no companies above them .

E.G-

• AT&T.
• Verizon.
• Sprint (Softbank Broadband)
• Century Link (Qwest)
• Level 3 (with Global Crossing now)
• NTT/Verio.
• Cogent (maybe?)

2/ TIER 2 ISPs-

è These are the national level companies who give the connection of data or provide internet access to local (inter-country level) areas (state-state connection) like AIRTEL/IDEA in INDIA.

è They pay for the service access to TIER-1 ISPs & gains profit from customer by providing different plans i.e. 100mbps at Rs 1000/- or 20mbps at Rs 200/- etc.

E.G.

The Indian Internet Region Tier 1 ISPs

• Bharti.
• Reliance.
• Tata.
• BSNL.

3/ TIER 3 ISPs-

è These are the connecting links between two national levels telecom companies/ISPs for best coverage for networks.

è These are the profit gainers from local area customers like cities/state etc but paying to TIER 2 ISPs for different bandwidth speeds.

E.G  .

Now if a customer (A) has a plan of 100MBPS & customer (B) has a plan of 20 MBPS , then under this circumstances the TIER 2 ISPs have to provide priority to customer by giving shortest path to provide data, for which customer (A) will be benefitted more than customer (B) as he has bigger plan than customer (B).

Hence we concluded that the TIER 1 ISPs are at the top of level in providing internet service who are spreading cables in the sea.
